Research has shown that foliar applications of fungicides can increase yields and seed quality by controlling foliar diseases, such as gray leaf spot, common rust, northern corn leaf blight and others. In addition, these fungicide applications also frequently result in improved late season stalk integrity and overall better plant health. Yield increases with timely fungicide applications have often been substantial where disease pressure has been high or susceptible hybrids are grown.
Below is a checklist, modified from a soybean foliar fungicide checklist that was originally developed at the University of Illinois. This table can assist in determining the advisability of applying a foliar fungicide.
